Baja California Map
The Baja California peninsula, nearly 800 miles in length and varying from about 30 to 100 miles in width , extends south from the US border like giant appendage paralleling the north -western Mexican mainland. It broke off millions of years ago , in the process creating the gulf of California (also known as the Sea of Cortez). Baja's backbone is made up of two westward -sloping mountain ranges . Sierra de San Pedro Martir dominates the north, Sierra de la Giganta, the South. Both the Gulf and Pacific coastlines are endless strings of bays and coves, with many islands scattered offshore. Both bodies of water are home to am amazing variety of fish, making the peninsula a sport-fishing paradise.
